Careers in the caring and health professions
Looking after people’s health and contributing to their quality of life is a highly rewarding profession. These jobs ensure the well-being of people, both physically and emotionally. If you have a passion for working with people then there will be a role for you. These are jobs that many of us come across in our everyday lives, when we need specialist help. The pay and the amount of training required depends on which role you wish to undertake, and there are opportunities to work in both the public and private sector. The NHS employs people in the majority of these professions, and you can find out more on the NHS Careers website.

The caring professions also include those jobs done by people who fight to right social injustice. Are you somebody who cannot stand by while someone is bullied? Watching the news on TV, do you get angry hearing of people’s suffering through famine or unjust imprisonment? Use your skills and passion to right some of the world’s wrongs, and fight for fairness. In many of these types of professions, a solid background in another appropriate career, such as nursing, medicine, or law will be very advantageous as you embark on your work. Social workers are people who are concerned with righting society’s wrong and getting a fair deal for the most vulnerable.
