You are taking your GCSE’s . So what next? This is an exciting time. But it can be scary too…….
“What if I make the wrong decision?” “What areas are there lots of jobs in?” “How can I get to use my artistic talents?” “Will I earn enough to support a family?” “How will I ensure I have the right experience for the jobs that will be here in 10 years time?”
Taking the next step means browsing lots of options to ensure you are not missing anything important. While you have a lot of decisions to make this year, try not to worry that you will lock yourself in, and that the next step will shut doors to you. Unlike past generations, the first job you take is unlikely to be the only type of job you have in your career. Every job will be a new learning experience and will allow you to develop different skills and explore new challenges. Embrace change and embrace opportunity!
Whether you enjoy studying and wish to try university, or not, it is important to recognise that it is vital to get training to realise your potential and be the best you can be. Skills development can include staying with formal learning (through A-levels, college or university), or exploring other options. For instance learning a trade or gaining vocational training on the job. Be sure to get the right further education or training for you and give yourself the edge above the competition!
